For other accounting firms
If your firm does not audit trust accounts, this is the page for you.
The kinds of work
Described concretely, because capability claims tell you nothing. In each case the pattern is the same as the audit tool's: code does the mechanical pass, every figure keeps its provenance, exceptions go to a person, and nothing is silently resolved.
- Document and workpaper handling
- Client documents arrive by email, portal and shared drive, and someone files them, renames them and checks the set is complete before the work can start. That checking can be done by code: what arrived, what is missing, what period each document actually covers, and where it belongs.
- Client onboarding
- Engagement letters, ID checks, ATO and ASIC linkages, software access, and the chase for what the client has not sent. The sequence is the same every time and the status of each new client lives in three places. It can live in one, with the chasing done for you.
- Supplier invoice processing
- Reading a supplier invoice, coding it, matching it to a purchase order or a job, and posting it into the ledger. For your own practice or for clients you keep the books for. Exceptions go to a person; the rest does not.
- The recurring report a junior rebuilds every month
- The management report, the debtors summary, the WIP and lock-up figures, the board pack: pulled from the practice system and the ledger, formatted, and rebuilt by hand each month. Once the shape is agreed, it can be produced on schedule from the source data, with the figures traceable back to where they came from.
The commercial shape
This work is scoped per firm. Your practice system, your document flow and the exceptions you care about are yours, so the build is too, and it is quoted after a conversation rather than from a price list. That is a different offer from the audit product, and saying so is what keeps the published price on the front page honest.
A typical engagement starts with one workflow, agreed in writing with what it does, what it hands to a person, and what it will not touch. It runs on tooling your firm can keep with or without Mushin.
